Body contouring in Lucknow

Liposuction, tummy tuck, body lift and male chest correction to reshape the body after weight change or pregnancy.

Body contouring improves the body's shape where diet and exercise have not: removing stubborn fat, tightening loose skin and restoring a firmer outline after weight loss or pregnancy.

These procedures are described in full on the Cosmetic Surgery page; this page brings them together for patients looking specifically at body shape.

Body contouring procedures

Liposuction

Liposuction (also called lipoplasty or liposculpture) removes excess fat to contour the body. It is most often used on the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, neck and ankles. The surgeon inserts a thin tube (cannula) through tiny incisions and suctions out the fat.

Several techniques exist: suction-assisted (SAL), ultrasound-assisted (UAL), power-assisted (PAL) and laser-assisted (LAL). Your surgeon will advise which suits you.

The procedure
The procedure takes one to four hours, and most patients see a clear result after a single session. Non-surgical fat-reduction treatments usually need at least two sessions and take months to show results.
Recovery
Expect some pain, swelling and bruising. Your surgeon may prescribe pain relief and antibiotics, and may place temporary drains. You will usually wear compression garments for a few weeks to reduce swelling.
Most people return to work after a few days and to normal activity, including exercise, after a few weeks. Some contour irregularity is normal while the remaining fat settles.

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck flattens the abdomen. It removes loose skin left after major weight loss or childbirth, tightens the abdominal muscles and removes fat. It can also remove stretch marks on the skin that is taken away.

Unlike liposuction, which removes fat only, an abdominoplasty also tightens muscle and removes excess skin. When only the skin below the belly button needs removing, a mini tummy tuck may be enough. Contour liposuction is usually done at the same time as a full tummy tuck.

Illustration
The procedure
Depending on its complexity, the operation takes between 90 minutes and five hours under general anaesthesia. A horizontal incision is made just within or above the pubic area, with a second incision around the belly button if there is loose skin above it. Excess skin is trimmed, the remaining skin is closed, and a new opening for the belly button is created.
Recovery
Bed rest is advised for 3–4 days, and you will be helped to walk on the second or third day. You will wear a pressure garment for about six weeks. Drains are removed once drainage is low. You can walk and go about routine activities with care.

Body lift

A body lift combines several operations to remove extra skin after significant weight loss, often after bariatric surgery. A lower body lift usually includes a buttock lift, thigh lift and tummy tuck. An upper body lift often includes an arm lift (brachioplasty) and back lift, with a breast lift for women. A full body lift combines both, usually several months apart.

Illustration
The procedure
The technique, incision length and pattern depend on how much skin needs removing and where. A body lift can be combined with liposuction, a tummy tuck or breast surgery.
Recovery
Plan for about a month off work and an easy few months after that. You may stay in hospital for a few hours or up to two days, and will go home with compression garments and sometimes drains. Have someone take you home and help for the first few days.

Mommy makeover

A combination of procedures, done in one operation, to restore the body after pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. It is planned around each patient but usually includes a tummy tuck (sometimes with repair of separated abdominal muscles), breast surgery (augmentation, lift or reduction) and liposuction.

Illustration
The procedure
Performed under general anaesthesia, following the surgical plan agreed at consultation.
Recovery
Plan for at least two weeks off work, and up to six weeks for physical jobs. Light activity is fine in the first two weeks; avoid exercise for three weeks, intense exercise for six weeks, and heavy lifting. Swelling and bruising settle over one to three weeks; the final result shows by about six months, and scars keep fading for 6–12 months.

Daddy makeover

A combination of procedures for men who want a firmer, more defined appearance when diet and exercise have not been enough. It can be as simple as injectables, skin treatments or hair restoration, or include liposuction and a tummy tuck for the waist and abdomen.

Recovery
Recovery depends on which procedures are chosen; your plan is made at consultation.

Calf and gluteal (buttock) implants

Calf implants add shape to calves that do not respond to exercise. Gluteal augmentation adds volume and shape to under-developed or poorly proportioned buttocks.

Illustration
The procedure
Calf implant surgery takes about two to three hours under general anaesthesia. The implants are placed through a small incision behind the knee, on top of the muscle but beneath its protective covering (fascia).
Recovery
Wear compression garments, keep your legs raised when you can, and limit repetitive lower-body movement for several weeks. Most people return to light running and weight training after 6–8 weeks.

Gynaecomastia (male breast correction)

Gynaecomastia is enlarged breast tissue in men and adolescent boys. It is rarely serious but can be hard to live with and affect self-esteem. It is treated by removing the excess gland tissue, liposuction of excess fat and, occasionally, removal of excess skin.

The procedure
A day-care procedure under general anaesthesia; you can go home a couple of hours afterwards. Scars depend on the amount of tissue and skin elasticity; where liposuction alone is enough, only tiny incisions are needed.
Recovery
Students and people with desk jobs can return about a week after surgery; take about four weeks off for a physical job. Avoid running and workouts for at least 4–6 weeks.

Is it right for me?

Body contouring suits adults close to a stable, healthy weight who have fat or loose skin that diet and exercise have not shifted. It is not a way to lose weight. After major weight loss, your weight should be stable for several months before skin is removed.

Risks

Bleeding, infection, a collection of fluid (seroma), slow wound healing, visible scars, numbness, an uneven contour, and blood clots in the legs, which is why you are helped to walk early. Larger and combined operations carry more risk; Dr. Neeraj will explain what applies to you.

Your first consultation

  1. Dr. Neeraj Upadhyay asks about your concern, your health, your medicines and any previous treatment.
  2. He examines you and explains the options, including when surgery is not the best choice.
  3. You hear what the procedure involves, the recovery, the risks and the cost, before you decide anything.
  4. Photographs may be taken to plan your treatment, only with your consent.

Bring a list of your medicines and any reports or scans. Consultations are in the clinic, or by video if you live outside Lucknow.

What affects the cost

Fees are explained at your consultation, once your plan is agreed.

Questions about body contouring

Will I need to wear a compression garment?

Usually, yes. Compression garments reduce swelling after liposuction and body lifts, and a pressure garment is worn for about six weeks after a tummy tuck.

Is body contouring a way to lose weight?

No. It reshapes areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. For severe obesity, weight-loss surgery is a separate option to discuss with your doctor.

When will I see the final result?

Swelling settles over several weeks. The final shape usually shows by 3–6 months, and scars keep fading for up to a year.
