A group of procedures that can improve the appearance or function of the vagina and vulva.
Reduces the inner lips (labia minora) so they do not protrude, or corrects asymmetry. Some women choose it to relieve chafing and irritation.
Tightens the vagina by removing excess lining tissue, often for loss of tone after childbirth.
Reconstructs the hymen by rejoining its torn edges.
Adds fullness to the outer lips using fat taken from another part of the body.
Liposuction of fat over the pubic area, so it is less prominent.
Reduces excess skin around the clitoris (hoodectomy).
Procedures to correct the shape or size of the penis or scrotum, which can affect self-esteem and sexual life.
Adds girth using your own fat (autologous fat transfer). Results vary, and the risks are discussed in detail beforehand.
Corrects a penis hidden within the pubic skin, fat or scrotum, often linked to obesity, weight loss or inflammation, improving visible and functional length.
Restores the angle between the penis and scrotum where scrotal skin extends up the shaft, which can be present from birth or follow circumcision.
Removes excess or low-hanging scrotal skin that causes discomfort, irritation or self-consciousness.
For men born without a testicle or who have had one or both removed. Implants come in sizes to match the other side; adolescents can have them once growth is complete.
Surgery that aligns the body with a person's gender identity, as part of wider care that may include hormone therapy.
Removal of the penis and testes, usually followed by creation of a vagina (vaginoplasty). Other procedures may include breast augmentation, buttock augmentation, reduction of the Adam's apple and facial feminisation surgery (softening the brow, nose, jaw, forehead and cheekbones).
Creation of male genitalia (masculinising genitoplasty), usually alongside other procedures such as mastectomy and hysterectomy, and testosterone therapy.
After female genital surgery, swelling, soreness and bruising usually settle within one to two weeks, and you can walk comfortably after a few days. Sexual activity can usually resume after 4–6 weeks; the final result may take a couple of months.
After gender-affirming surgery, pain is usually controlled with medication and settles in a few days. Dressings are changed after a few days and stitches removed within a week. Healing continues for weeks or months; avoid strenuous activity and lifting.

Genital surgery suits adults in good health with a clear concern about appearance, comfort or function. Gender-affirming surgery is part of a longer pathway: it usually follows assessment by a mental-health professional and a period of hormone therapy, and is done only in adults.

Bleeding, infection, swelling, wound breakdown, scarring, changes in sensation, and a result that is not perfectly symmetrical. Gender-affirming surgery is a larger operation with further risks, which are discussed in detail beforehand.
