Hair transplant in Lucknow

Microscopic follicular unit hair transplantation (FUE / FUT) for men and women with thinning hair or baldness.

Hair loss can be caused by stress, illness, some medical treatments, diet, hormonal changes and genes. Some hair loss is temporary or reversible; where the follicles are permanently lost, a hair transplant can restore hair.

The technique is microscopic follicular unit hair transplantation. Under a high-powered stereo microscope, grafts are taken from the back and sides of the head, where hair is permanent, and placed into tiny incisions across the thinning or bald area. More than 95% of these units take root.

FUT and FUE

FUT and FUE are two ways of harvesting follicular units. Both give good results for frontal baldness. Many patients prefer FUE because it is less invasive and recovery is quicker; for larger areas a combination of the two is often advised.

The procedure

The method depends on the area to be treated and the look you want. Local anaesthesia is used in the donor and recipient areas, with mild sedation; general anaesthesia is rarely needed. The donor scar is hidden by your existing hair.

Each procedure is different, but most are completed in 6–8 hours, depending on the number of grafts. Many patients watch a film or listen to music.

Recovery

You may wear dressings for at least two days, and the scalp will be sensitive for about a week; pain relief and antibiotics may be prescribed. Contact the clinic if pain, redness or swelling is severe or lasting.

Most people return to work within one to two days. The transplanted hairs usually fall out soon after surgery; this is normal. New hair starts growing after about three to four months.

Your timeline

  • 1–2 days: back to work for most people
  • 3–4 months: new hair starts to grow
  • 9–12 months: a clear cosmetic difference

Is it right for me?

General guidance, awaiting review by the clinic.

A transplant works best when hair loss has settled into a pattern and there is enough healthy hair at the back and sides of the head to move. It suits men and women with pattern hair loss, and hair lost to a scar or injury. When thinning has only just begun, medicines may be tried first.

Risks

General guidance, awaiting review by the clinic.

Bleeding, infection and swelling of the forehead for a few days; numbness of the scalp that settles; temporary shedding of existing hair near the transplant (shock loss), which grows back; and scarring at the donor area: a fine line with FUT, tiny dots with FUE.

Questions about hair transplant

What is the principle of hair transplant surgery?

Microscopic follicular unit hair transplantation moves permanent hair from the back and sides of the head into tiny incisions across the bald area. More than 95% of these units take root, creating permanent, natural replacements for lost hair.

Is hair transplant surgery the only way to restore hair?

It is the only permanent solution. Transplanted hair looks and feels natural and needs little maintenance. If thinning has only just started and you want to stop further loss, other hair-restoration treatments may work for you.

How long does the procedure take?

Usually 6–8 hours, sometimes longer depending on the number of grafts. You can be back at work in a day or two.

Is a hair transplant painful?

Most people feel minimal discomfort. Mild sedatives and a local anaesthetic are used, and you simply relax during the procedure.

What will I look like afterwards?

Once the transplanted follicles grow, you will have fuller hair that looks like your own, because it is.

When will I see results?

Follicles rest after transplantation and begin producing new hair after about three to four months. You will normally see a cosmetic difference within nine to twelve months.
